Following decades of planning, debate, and community outreach and support, Swampscott will begin construction of the Swampscott Rail Trail! On June 10th, the Select Board voted to acquire the recreational easements and to hire the contractor to construct the first segment of the Swampscott Rail Trail – from Beach Bluff Avenue to the Marblehead trail. Construction is slated to begin the week of the 15th and be completed within a month. The construction of this segment of the trail will be funded solely by a grant from the MassTrails program and private donations. This first segment may not be long, but its completion is the important next step in realizing our community trail safely connecting Swampscott neighborhoods with schools, parks, public transportation, and the wider trail networks around us. This section will serve as an important demonstration to our community of how wonderful the full trail will be once completed. Thank you to everyone who has worked so tirelessly on this project and all of our supporters through the years – we are on our way! Thank you again to the Solomon Foundation and the MassTrails Grant Program for their support of the Swampscott Rail Trail. And last but certainly not least, thank you to all of the trail neighbors along this stretch for supporting the creation of the Swampscott Rail Trail and collaborating with the Town of Swampscott to ensure our community trail is the best it can be for trail neighbors and trail users!
